Domain Registration

The system

This article will try to give you the basics of the Domain Registration process and give you the guidelines on how to buy and supports your understanding of the whole process.

Top of the pyramid, the ICANN

Domain names are assigned by the ICANN, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, The ICANN does not allow you to register domain names directly, they will only allow those who can offer guarentees that they can sustain the domains and make them work

The ICANN sets the rules of the games, Rules such as domain name dispute resolution policy (When you register someone else's trademark, the rules say you giove it back) etc...

So, a registrar pays the ICANN a small application review fee (2500 U.S.D), and demonstrates there ability to meet the ican technical requierments, then sign an agreement to be bound by the ICANN rules. Domain Name Registrars What is a registrar ?

An ICANN accredited domain name registrar is an service provider that reserves domain names for there clients for a fee

Long ago, the ICANN appointed one domain registrar, Network Solutions, A monopoly for the .COM, .NET, and .ORG domain names, At that time, domain names were expensive and very little came with a domain for the high price NETSOL asked for, then Verisign (NETSOL) started playing around with people's domain names, Just type in a name of a non existant domain name, and you are automatically forwarded to there Search engine, Something that sounds unfair, is unfair, and makes you hate them before hand for being pigs.

Then, in 1999, the ICANN allowed other registrars to join in, effectivly ending the Verisign - NetSol monopoly in the area of domain names, and prices suddenly went down, i remember when network sollutions CEO said, if you are looking for cheap domains, Don't come to us (Yes, he got addicted to the high prices), Cheap domains sounded to his ears as if (People are not paying him his holy dues).

Today, Cheap registrars are everywhere, and i feel compelled to tell you that i don't know of any 2+ year old registrar that is unreliable, on the list of 1000 registrars on the ican's page, most of them are indeed reliable. But some registrars offered more

Although most registrars are indeed reliable, Some registrars offer more "free and relavant" features free with every domain name, and surely enough those registrars grew up like the magical tree of Jack (Jack and the Beanstalk).

Unlike what you normally expect, Cheap Domains are NOT lower grade, even more astonishing is that the cheapest domains (I would rather call them inexpensive) come with pleanty (From a certain provider), and some of the expensive one come with so little. If there are only 1 thousand registrars, how come i see much more on the internet ?

Here it is, EasyWebDNS and most other Domain Registration websites on the internet are not tier 1 registrars, Yet we are cheaper than the Tier 1 registrar we sell for (Wild west domains)

Here is how it works, We got this account from "Domain Reseller Direct" and we sell a service identicall to that of some Tier 1 registrar (Including there support), What we do is actually adding some services of our own to there service, they offer a big bunch of services and support for there services like they normally do when you buy directly from them, we add some more features to the domain and and supply support for those services.
