If your computer only has a command prompt when it boots, Chances are you do not have a GUI installed on the system
To make things easier for us, The debian developers have put together a virtual package named gnome
So, to install the virtual package that Debian has put together you can simply execute
0- Login to your system as root, enter the username root and the password of the root user
1- To update your system to get the latest editions
apt-get update
2- To install the virtual GNOME package (The GUI)
apt-get install gnome
uswsusp (Userspace Software Suspend) configuration might display a message such as
No userspace software suspend support in the kernel The current kernel doesn't support userspace software suspend. Please recompile the kernel with the 'CONFIG_SOFTWARE_SUSPEND=y' option
