There are two main categories that you can set to get the best bevel and emboss effect that you want:
1. Structure:
-Style
You can choose between Inner Bevel (that would apply the effect inside the edges of the layer)Outside Bevel (would apply the effect to the outside edges of the layer) Emboss (This would give an effect that makes the layer looks as if engraved into the layers below it) Pillow Emboss (This would give an effect that makes the edges of the layer look as if engraved into the layers below it) Stroke Emboss (This gives a stroke emboss effect to the edges of the layer).
-Technique
You can choose between Smooth, Chisel Hard, and Chisel Soft
-Depth
This determines the depth of the effect applied to the layer.
-Direction
You can choose between up and down, as the direction for the effect applied.
-Size
Determines the amount of the bevel
-Soften
This blurs the effect.
2. Shading:
-Angle : This determines the angle of the Effect
-Use Global Light When checked this applies a one angle shadow to all the effects applied, like shadow, glow and bevel. so that the effects look more realistic.
-Attitude This sets the height of the light applied with the effect.
-Gloss Contour
This creates a contour that looks like a metallic wrap over the layer.
-Highlight Mode

-Opacity
this determines the density of the effect.
-Shadow Mode

3. Preview box: It gives you a preview of how the bevel and emboss is implied.
