Saving JPEGs and GIFs

If you want to save your work in a JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group ) or GIF (Graphics Interchange Format ) format , all you have to do is:

1. Go to File > save As

2. In the format Box choose the format that you want, if you chose JPEG for example and then clicked save, a pop-up menu will appear.

3. The pop-up Menu gives you (JPEG Options), in steps these options are:

1)Matte: it's the process of simulating transparency by filling the transparent Pixels with matte color that matches the web page background, it is best done when you use solid colors for the web page color, matte options in Photoshop are:

a)None : To choose not to fill at all

b)Foreground color : To fill with the foreground Color

c)Background color : To fill with the Background color

d)White : To fill with the color white

e)Black : To fill with the color black

f)50% Gray : To fill with the color gray

g)Netscape Gray : The fill with this color "192 R, 192 G, and 192 B"

h)Custom : To fill with a color of choice, a color that you customize.

2)After you choose the Matte you want, you move to the next step which is choosing image options

, here you edit the settings to set the Quality of the image, and the file size to be as you wish it to be.

3)Format Options:

a)Baseline (Standard): format recognized by most web browsers.

b)Baseline Optimized: files with optimized colors and mostly in a smaller size.

c)Progressive: scans : 3, 4, and 5. and it's the process of letting viewers see the image in low quality until it's downloaded completely.

If you want to save your work in a GIF format:

1. Do exactly what you did in the previous step but instead of choosing JPEG format, choose CompuServe GIF.

2. This will open a pop-up menu called Indexed color.

3. This menu contains the following options:

1)Palette :

Exact

System (Mac OS)

System (Windows)

Web

Uniform

Local (Perceptual)

Local (Selective)

Local (Adaptive)

Master (Perceptual)

Master (Selective)

Master (Adaptive)

Custom

2)Colors : set to default 256 , you can enter the number you want in the box.

3)Forced : Black and White, Primaries, Web, and Custom.

4)Transparency : you have a check box next to it, if you want the background to be transparent or not.
