Image>> Adjustment>> brightness/contrast
The brightness and contrast tool has been enhanced a lot and become more useful in CS3. But if you are used to how the old brightness contrast worked you can use the legacy option. To see the difference between the new enhanced adjustment of the brightness/contrast and the old version, enter the same value for brightness and contrast twice, once with legacy option checked (old) and once when its unchecked (new) using the same image and compare.
Black and White
This a totally new color adjustment tool in CS3 you can convert your colored image to black and white (monochrome). Go to image>>adjustment>> black and white the black and white dialog box pops up and your image is automatically converted to a gray scale color. Now you can darken or lighten the gray scale of each color in the original image. For example if you want to darken the red color in your image move the red slider to the left. If you have a hand in your image for example and don’t know which color to adjust, just move your mouse to that area on the image, and you will see that the mouse cursor is converted to an eye dropper icon, if you click once and hold you will see that you can move the slider of that color from within the image. You can use the presets to adjust the gray scale also you can save your own presets. It’s a good practice if you use the “auto” adjust or the preset as a begging point, that’s if you don’t want to use them exactly the way they are. If you press and hold the Alt key and with your mouse click on one of the color boxes they will be reset. If you want to reset all the sliders press and hold the Alt key, you will see that the cancel button has changed to a reset button. After you have adjusted the gray scale for your image, you can apply a color over it using Tint, Choose the color you want from the hue slider and then choose the saturation level.
